Salim al-Hilali was born in al-Khalil (Hebron) Palestine in 1957. His post-graduate studies was in the subject of Hadith. He accompanied Muhammad Nasir ad-Din al-Albani, the Authority of Hadith of our time and the Reviver of Islam in this century, and served as a student under him for the length of one quarter of a century (25 years). He met and studied with many of the people of knowledge in India, Pakistan and the Hijaz who certified him with ijazahs (approbations) to teach and narrate from them. Among these scholars include: Badi' ad-Din as-Sindhi (the Muhaddith of Sindh), Muhibb ad-Din as-Sindhi, Abd al-Ghaffar Hasan, Muhammad 'Abdul-Falah, 'Ataullah Hanif (the Muhaddith of Punjab) and Hammad al-Ansari (the Muhaddith of Madinah).
The shaykh played an active role in calling to the methodology of the Salaf. He was probably one of the most famous Salafi scholars in the West in the 90s due to his constant visiting and attending of conferences, seminars and programs in the United Kingdom and the United States (particularly al-Qur'an was-Sunnah Society [QSS] conferences). He also teaches and gives lectures in Jordan.
He has authored over 100 books. Some of them include: Bahjat an-Nadhirin Sharh Riyad as-Salihin (3 vol.), Mawsu'at alManahi ash-Shara'iyyah fi Sahih as-Sunnah an-Nabawiyyah (4 vol.), Kifayat al-Hafaz Sharh Muqaddimah al-Muqidhah, Limadha akhtartu al-Manhaj as-Salafi, Basa'ir dhiw ash-Sharaf, Mu'allifat Sa'id Hawa, al-Jama'at al-Islamiyyah, al-Qabidun al-Jamr, Madarij al-Ubudiyyah, Tuba lil-Ghuraba, As-Sabr, Maqami' ash-Shaytan, Halawat al-Iman, Qisat Ka'b ibn Malik, al-Qawl al-Mubin fi Jam'at al-Muslimin, ar-Riya', al-Haya', Makarim al-Akhlaq, etc.
